Theys
is an endurance driving legend, a 2002 Grand Am
national champion, and a former Indy car star. Theys
ran the first three of nine races in the ALMS in
2003 in the Doran-Lista Dallara and still finished
14th in the overall 2003 LMP900 point
standings. Although the Doran-Lista team only competed
in a third of the ALMS events, it still finished
sixth overall in the LMP900 team standings, only
10 points out of fifth.
Theys
also competed in six of 12 Grand Am events in 2003
in the brand-new Daytona Prototype class while helping
to develop the brand-new DORAN JE4 chassis.
He ran two of those races with Bell Motorsports
and four with Doran-Lista Racing to finish eighth
in Daytona Prototype points in that class's inaugural
season.
Theys
earned the 2002 driver championship in the premier
Sports Racing Prototype class in Grand Am that year,
while his team, Doran-Lista Racing, finished second
in the team standings for the third consecutive
year.
Theys
led the Grand Am SRP point standings all year in
2002, with victories at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona,
Homestead, Fontana and Mont-Tremblant. He earned
seven poles in the 10-race series.
Although
2002 marked Theys' first Grand Am championship,
he finished in the top three in 2002, 2001 and 2000
in SRP points in Grand Am.)
RACING HIGHLIGHTS:
2005: Doing selected races with Doran Racing; finished
fifth in the Rolex 24 Feb. 5-6 with teammates
Fabrizio Gollin and Matteo Bobbi in Doran Racing's
Crown Royal Special Reserve DORAN JE4 Lexus #77.
2004:
Qualified 31st overall and finished fourth overall
and second in Daytona Prototype class in Rolex 24
at Daytona. Teammates were Fredy Lienhard
Sr., Jan Lammers and Marc Goossens.
Qualified
second both in class and overall at Homestead in
late February. Co-driver Jan Magnussen was involved
in an accident going for the lead late in the race
and they finished 14th in class and 19th overall.
Finished
14th in Daytona Prototypes and 31st overall at Phoenix
in April after accident late in race while running
fifth. Teammate Fredy Lienhard Sr. qualified 14th.
Finished
second at Mont-Tremblant with co-driver Jan Magnussen,
who qualified fourth.
Finished
fifth in Glen Six Hour with co-driver Jan Magnussen,
who qualified seventh.
Finished
tenth in Paul Revere 250 at Daytona with co-driver
Benjamin Leuenberger, who qualified 12th.

was the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. Theys'
teammates were Eric van der Poele and Fredy Lienhard
Sr. at Sebring. Qualified sixth in LMP 900 class
and eighth overall. Finished seventh in class and
overall.

Started third in class and fourth overall at Road
Atlanta ALMS race in June. With van de Poele
as his co-driver, finished third in LMP 900 class
and fifth overall.

Qualified third in class and fifth overall at ALMS
race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on July
26. Finished third in class and fourth overall
in race the following day, paired with Bill Auberlen.

2003 Grand Am race results follow:

Debuted the brand-new DORAN JE4 Chevrolet for Bell
Motorsports at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona teamed
up with Terry Borcheller, Christian Fittipaldi and
Forest Barber. Qualified sixth in class and overall.
Car developed engine problems and DNF; ended up
sixth in Daytona Prototype class and 39th overall.

Led the Grand Am race at Watkins Glen in the same
car in July; finished second overall and second
in class, helping to contribute towards this car
eventually winning the inagural Daytona Prototype
national championship.

Qualifed second in class and third overall at Watkins
Glen in August in the Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Toyota's
maiden race. Paired with Bill Auberlen, finished
third overall and in class.
