One of Mexico's most accomplished race car drivers; primarily
well-known for his many accomplishments in the Champ Car World Series. In 2005
he drove for PPC Racing in the NASCAR Busch Grand National series, and he hopes
to continue doing that in 2006. He's making his first Rolex 24 start ever in
2006 driving Doran Racing's Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Ford with co-drivers
Terry Borcheller, Harrison Brix and Forest Barber. Hopes to do double-duty during
SpeedWeeks at Daytona by also driving PPC Racing's Taurus in NASCAR Busch
Grand National race here.
Career Highlights:
In 152 career Champ Car World Series starts over the
course of nine years, Jourdain scored two victories, 20 top-five and 25 top-10
finishes, including nine podium showings. Jourdain's best-career CCWS points
finish was third in 2003 when he drove for Team Rahal. Racked up the most series
laps led and most miles completed for the '03 season and became only the second
driver in the series history to capture this milestone for two consecutive
years, placing his name alongside Emerson Fittipaldi. Jourdain became the
youngest Champ Car World Series (CCWS) driver at age 19 in 1996 and was awarded the
series' "Most Improved Driver" title in 1997. Made Indy 500 debut in 1996,
qualifying eighth and finishing 13th with Team Scandia. Switched to stock cars in
2005. Has competed in Baja 1000 with father and uncles, Bernard and Jean
Pierre; they won their class, the Baja Challenge, in 2004. Competed in Mexican
Formula 2 series, Devlac and Neon Cups and the Mexican Formula Junior series
early in his career. Made his racing debut in 1988 at age 12.
Personal:
Son of well-known Mexican race car driver Michel Jourdain Sr. and
nephew of Bernard Jourdain, the 1989 Indy 500 Co-Rookie of the Year. Married to
Nora. One son, Michel III. Interests include tennis, water skiing, snow
skiing, paddle tennis and swimming.
2006 Rolex Series results:
1. Rolex 24: Finished seventh overall and in DP with
co-drivers Forest
Barber, Harrison Brix and Terry Borcheller, who qualified
18th.
2. Infineon: Finished 16th with co-driver Brix, who
qualified 17th.
3. MMP: Finished eighth with Brix, who qualified
19th, and Oriol Servia, who
was making his first start in the series and with
Doran Racing.
