Doran Racing Wants to End CTSCC Season
With a Victory Friday at Road Atlanta

LEBANON, Ohio, Sept. 29 — Doran Racing has been a strong contender throughout the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season, a series of 12 races that began in late January and will come to a close Friday at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.

Doran Racing is fifth in the Grand Sport team standings heading into Friday's 2.5-hour race that starts at 1:15 p.m. It's just two points out of fourth place, and it could rise as high as third. The team fields a Nissan NISMO 370Z in the series, and Nissan is also fifth in the manufacturer standings.

The Lebanon, Ohio-based team's drivers, Brad Jaeger of Charlottesville, Va., and B.J. Zacharias of Cincinnati, are fifth and seventh, respectively, in the Grand Sport driver point standings.

The #14 has had two podium finishes (a third at Sebring and a second at Watkins Glen), and two additional top-five finishes (Laguna Seca and IMS), and the team would like nothing better than to get an outright victory at Road Atlanta.

"The season has definitely had its up and downs," Jaeger said.  "We've had some amazing performances, working hard together and battling back from adversities.  The important thing is that everyone has always stayed committed.  We've had two podium finishes, but Doran Racing and Nissan deserve a win!  Hopefully Road Atlanta will be the track where everything comes together for us."

"This season has been up and down," Zacharias agreed.  "We have had a competitive package at every event and four solid top-five finishes. I really would like to end the season with a positive finish/result.

"This year has been a good experience running with Kevin [team owner Kevin Doran] and Brad and Nissan," Zacharias added.

Both drivers are really looking forward to Friday's race on Road Atlanta's 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course.

"The last time I raced at Road Atlanta was in 2006 with Star Mazda," Jaeger related. "I absolutely love the track and am really happy to be back there this year.  I've run Star Mazdas and Sports 2000s at Road Atlanta, but this will be my first time there in a GT car.

"It is definitely one of my favorite tracks," Jaeger continued.  "I have memories as a child of my dad racing in the Runoffs at Road Atlanta before the chicane in the backstraight was added. 

"It's important to be smooth and float speed through the corners, but it's critical to get good launches on the backstraight because of how long and fast it is," he added.  "The brake zone on the backstraight is a great place to overtake, and our Nissan 370Z should perform really well there because of how light the car is."

"I've only run at Road Atlanta three times," Zacharias said.  "One was a test day and the other two times were during PCA [Porsche Club of America] club races.

"I've been there a handful of times, so I'm looking forward to finally competing at a Pro level there," Zacharias added.

The schedule shows a one-hour practice session at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and a 45-minute practice session at 9:10 a.m. Thursday before GS qualifying is held at 5:05 p.m. Thursday. The season finale is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. Friday. At press time there were 18 GS entries and 32 Street Tuner entries for a field of 50. The CTSCC race is part of the Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda weekend.
