Doran Racing Qualifies 11th for This Afternoon's
CTSCC Race at COTA

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 19 —Doran Racing's Nissan NISMO 370Z was fifth and fourth in the first two practice sessions and it qualified 11th Thursday in IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge action at the Circuit of the Americas.

"Our times were OK; we're in the hunt," said Brad Jaeger of Charlottesville, Va., who qualified the car with a lap in 2:23.894 on his third of five laps around the 3.427-mile, 20-turn road course during the 15-minute qualifying session. "I think the Nissan is better than 11th; we’ll have to just make it up in the race."

Friday's 2.5-hour race is scheduled to start at 1:20 p.m. Eastern time.

The team's qualifying time was more than 3 seconds faster than the 2:27.659 it ran in the first practice session Thursday morning, when it was ranked fifth out of 52 cars in the field. The team improved between the practice sessions too, as it was fourth overall in the second practice session on Thursday afternoon prior to qualifying with a 2:24.784.

The weather may play a factor in the race, as rain is predicted for Friday.

"It started sprinkling towards the end of qualifying, but everyone got a few dry laps in," said Jaeger, who is making his first start at this particular track.

"It rained this morning in between sessions, so we didn't get that much quality time on track," he added after the qualifying session.

Jaeger will start the race and then hand the car over to co-driver B.J. Zacharias of Cincinnati.

The pole went to Billy Johnson in a Mustang at 2:22.504.

"I think this track favors the high-torque V8s, but I also think their times will fall off during the race, and that will allow us to work through the field," Jaeger said.

Live streaming of the race is scheduled for imsa.com, while Fox Sports 1 viewers can see the coverage on a tape-delayed basis at noon Eastern on Sunday, Sept. 28.
